I've met a few people already, and my roommate Jamie was nice enough to give me a tour, but I guess this is a good way to introduce myself.

My name's Doug Ramsey. I'm 16, and I'm from Denver, Colorado. I'm a trivia buff, a science fiction geek, and I seriously don't think I'm a mutant. I mean, the reason I'm here is because I tested positive for the X-gene, but I can't do anything out of the ordinary. I mean, I can't fly, or read minds, or anything like that. I'm just a normal guy. But my parents got in contact with some people here because they've been getting harassed due to my supposedly confidential test results getting out. After talking with Ms. Braddock, they felt that I would be safer here. I understand them wanting to protect me, but I really wish I could just have stayed at home. Don't get me wrong, everyone I've met so far has been really nice, and I'm not one of those hard-core anti-mutant people, but I still feel like there's been some sort of mistake.

Sorry to get all heavy there, but it's just really hard to get plucked up out of a home and family you love to go halfway across the country, all because of a little genetic test.

So that's me. To everyone I haven't met yet, you're more than welcome to come by, or I'm sure I'll be running into everyone at some point.

Hey there again, chickpea. Nice to see you up and typing.

I'm sure there's a perfectly good reason why you're here. We all have one. Just don't stress over it.

If you need some help to catch up on the classes, I'm more than willing to help. Room 201, you know.

Glad to see you've got the hang of your journal. I hope I didn't frighten you, I can't feel the image inducer, so I forget that I'm wearing it. How's the settling in process going?

It's okay. My reaction was more due to not recognizing you than your appearance. I mean, having a random person who you've never seen walk up and talk like you already know each other can be kind of weird. Settling in is going really well. Jamie has really been a big help in that regard.

Hi!

I think I heard you in the kitchen this morning maybe, and I did not get a chance to say hello, so..

Hello!

I'm Marie-Ange. If you ever need to talk, just about being far away from family and feeling far away, I am usually in the game room or I am in my room, or you can follow the tiny squishy Faxmans.

Faxman is Jamie and Ev's fault.

Um, thanks.

And what(or who) is Faxman? Jamie kinda neglected to explain that.

You will have to ask Jamie or Ev about Faxman. I cannot do the story justice at all.

The Amazing Faxman is a superhero who defends the world from outdated office equipment. With his faithful sidekick Xerox Boy at his side, Faxman challenges the might of the evil Doctor Mimeograph and his Legions of Doom.

Ev's Faxman, I'm Xerox Boy. I also part-time as the Legions of Doom, because I can do that, and strangely enough no one has ever seen Faxman and Doctor Mimeograph in the same room.

Bienvenue...

If you see someone being run ragged by her evil room mate on the tennis courts, that'll be me.

You'll find a lot of people willing to help you settle in or talk with around here. Just take your time, and don't be afraid to ask if you've any questions.

...

Say... don't suppose you play a music instrument, by any chance, mmm? ;)

Um.

I'm trying to be cool and nonchalant about all the stuff I've seen and heard so far, but...

My brain is in the corner going "wibble" over the fact that Alison Blaire wants to know if I play a musical instrument.

And I don't play an instrument, but, um, I sing. It's kind of a hobby. I'm okay, I guess. I mean, I can carry a tune and all. *shrug*

Well. I'm kind of partial to music, you know? ;)

Singing! Singing is good! It's great even! Want to audit one of the last classes of the term to see if you want in next term? Come on! You know you want to.

Sure. I guess. I mean, I don't think you'll need to twist my arm to audit a music class taught by a world-famous performing artist. *smiles*

*throws a pillow at Ali*

By the same token, if you see someone running her slacker of a roommate ragged on the tennis courts, that would be me. Actually, I think I saw Jamie wander you by the courts before so at least you have a visual.

And don't let Ali sucker you into music. How are you at philosophy?

Thanks, I was looking for an extra pillow.

*grin*

Say... you'd make a good flutist... Maybe I ought to get you in my classes. ;)

Ha, yeah, that's going to happen about....oh, never. But I betcha I can get you into my class sooner than you'll get me into yours.

No bet. I already am in your class, silly.

Hey. Roomie loyalty. I gotta. ;)

Um.

From: [identity profile] x-cypher.livejournal.com
Yeah. Visual.

And she wouldn't sucker me. Singing is kind of a hobby with me. It'd be more worrying about being good enough to be in a music class taught by Alison Blaire.

And philosophy...I'm not so much on the humanities and such. Math and hard science is more my thing. Except for languages. I have a sort of head for languages. I speak a couple.

And, um, yeah.

---OOC---
--translation - because I still do not speak French really, and bablefish kinda mangled this

Wow. That's a lot of languages for someone from America to speak. I was told that not many people in America can speak anything but English.

Did you learn all that in school?

You do not mind if I continue to speak in French, do you? It is nice to be able to talk and write in the language I am most used to. I am still not as fluent in English as I would like.

(translation)

I learned French, German, and Russian at school. They let me take advanced courses when they found out how good I was at languages. Spanish and Italian I sort of learned on my own, since they are so similar to French. And it is true that most Americans cannot speak anything but English. Americans can be a little...narrow in their viewpoint. Some Americans have never been more than fifty miles from where they were born. It seems a shame to live in such an interesting and diverse country, and never explore it. That's my opinion, anyway.

I certainly don't mind if you speak French. It will give me a chance to learn slang and other things they don't teach us in French class. And perhaps I can help you learn more English in the process. I don't know how good of a teacher I would be, but it's worth a try.

Heh. All I knew about playing drums when I started was that you hit things with sticks, and now I can hit things with sticks, it's just amazing progress. And you actually admitted you can sing, so she'll probably do everything short of marching you down the hall at fingerpoint (lasers, y'know) to get you in the class. :)

Languages, huh? I can swear in Welsh, a little. Grandpa thought it was funny when I was five.

How many languages? We've got a bunch running around the house; any of those?

As a matter of fact, yes. French(and by extension I can get by in the other Romance languages), German(which reminds me, I should practice my German on Kurt), and Russian.

Better late than never. Jamie told me that you were in China for a while. I figured I would be meeting you at some point. If you'd like to actually, y'know, meet in person, not just over the journal system, you know where our room is. :)
