I've met a few people already, and my roommate Jamie was nice enough to give me a tour, but I guess this is a good way to introduce myself.
My name's Doug Ramsey. I'm 16, and I'm from Denver, Colorado. I'm a trivia buff, a science fiction geek, and I seriously don't think I'm a mutant. I mean, the reason I'm here is because I tested positive for the X-gene, but I can't do anything out of the ordinary. I mean, I can't fly, or read minds, or anything like that. I'm just a normal guy. But my parents got in contact with some people here because they've been getting harassed due to my supposedly confidential test results getting out. After talking with Ms. Braddock, they felt that I would be safer here. I understand them wanting to protect me, but I really wish I could just have stayed at home. Don't get me wrong, everyone I've met so far has been really nice, and I'm not one of those hard-core anti-mutant people, but I still feel like there's been some sort of mistake.
Sorry to get all heavy there, but it's just really hard to get plucked up out of a home and family you love to go halfway across the country, all because of a little genetic test.
So that's me. To everyone I haven't met yet, you're more than welcome to come by, or I'm sure I'll be running into everyone at some point.

slacker of aroommate ragged on the tennis courts, that would be me. Actually, I think I saw Jamie wander you by the courts before so at least you have a visual. And don't let Ali sucker you into music. How are you at philosophy?

And philosophy...I'm not so much on the humanities and such. Math and hard science is more my thing. Except for languages. I have a sort of head for languages. I speak a couple.
And, um, yeah.
Parlez-vous français ?

--translation - because I still do not speak French really, and bablefish kinda mangled this
Wow. That's a lot of languages for someone from America to speak. I was told that not many people in America can speak anything but English.
Did you learn all that in school?
You do not mind if I continue to speak in French, do you? It is nice to be able to talk and write in the language I am most used to. I am still not as fluent in English as I would like.
(translation)
I learned French, German, and Russian at school. They let me take advanced courses when they found out how good I was at languages. Spanish and Italian I sort of learned on my own, since they are so similar to French. And it is true that most Americans cannot speak anything but English. Americans can be a little...narrow in their viewpoint. Some Americans have never been more than fifty miles from where they were born. It seems a shame to live in such an interesting and diverse country, and never explore it. That's my opinion, anyway.
I certainly don't mind if you speak French. It will give me a chance to learn slang and other things they don't teach us in French class. And perhaps I can help you learn more English in the process. I don't know how good of a teacher I would be, but it's worth a try.
Re: Um.
Date: 2003-08-26 11:26 am (UTC)Languages, huh? I can swear in Welsh, a little. Grandpa thought it was funny when I was five.
Re: Um.
Date: 2003-08-26 09:35 pm (UTC)How many languages? We've got a bunch running around the house; any of those?
