1. Okay, are Angie and I really that annoying?

1a. Also, contrary to some thoughts, Angie and I do _not_ have to be surgically attached at the hip, and are perfectly capable of having our own lives.

2. Kyle? No offense, but the twins thing is a little old, and kind of annoying.

2a. Why does it seem to be so inconceivable that I'm a nerd and enjoy nerdy things, and yet I also happen to be the lead singer of the band and have a nice, attractive girlfriend?

3. Yes, I'm a little cranky and touchy. As much as I dislike being melodramatic, this stuff has been bugging me.

For the same reason you cannot expect water to spontaneously freeze at room temperature, or apply force without there being an equal and opposite counterforce. There are laws of interaction, obviously, as sure as there are laws of physics. You can be brilliant, or you can be popular. They won't let you be both.

Is overgeneralization your friend or something? The laws of physics are hard and fast. The 'laws' of social interaction are not.

With all due respect, sir, I was trying to make a point. If you'd like me to disclaim that last bit with "yes, I have had beaten into my head and understand fully that diving in front of a bullet to save someone else is a really stupid idea, and Kevlar doesn't work the way I thought it did", then fine. But I'm also tired of Forge condescending to me.

Is there something else all of this "remedial" butt-kicking was supposed to accomplish? Yes, what I did was stupid and poorly thought out. No, I don't still think of it as all that heroic, though I refuse to apologize for the end result.

So what else am I supposed to be learning? Because from here, it feels like I'm just continuing to be punished for a poor choice.

The remedial work was meant to show you all of the steps you so casually skipped over, Douglas. The training, the experience, the knowledge that you would have needed to intervene successfully in a situation like that. If it's shown you that intervention of that sort is not for you, so much the better.

Seriously, not so mcuh. Especially when one takes into account that neither Xavier's nor 'normal' High School is the real world. Yes, adolescence sucks, but really, it sucks for everybody, including the 'popular' kids.

And given that Xavier's isn't a normal high school, why bother even trying to apply the so-called laws of social interaction which 'function' out there in here. Unless you have some sort of burning desire to go back?
