With Edmonton's loss tonight, a Canadian team won't win the Stanley Cup for the 29th straight year -- the last Canadian champion still being the Montreal Canadians in 1993.

An American team has won the Grey Cup more recently than a Canadian team has won the Stanley Cup. There hasn’t been an American team in the CFL since the Baltimore Stallions moved to Montreal in 1995.

Their team in the American football league is the Ravens, yes. Canadian football is similar, but with a larger field, an extra player on each side, and so forth. Apparently there used to be American teams in that league, including this other Baltimore team, which I did not know until today.

I feel I'm being deliberately baited here. But just for fun, let's look at the numbers. See, the most important number is 44. That's the percentage of NHL players that are Canadian. Despite massive fanbases in Russia, Scandinavia and the US, with a combined population of over a half billion, 44% of NHL calibre players come from a country with a total population base of 38M. Which is to say that a Canadian team always wins the Stanley Cup every year. They just don't happen to have their home ice located in Canada.
